Dr. Ted Fenske – Gender, Sexuality & Identity
Gender, sexuality, and identity are all creational issues and clearly detailed in the Genesis account of the Bible. While we are undeniably sexual beings, an identity defined by sexuality is impoverished and incapable of meeting our core needs. By opposing God’s design for sexuality, the LGBT ideology and cultural movement has set into motion an unparalleled identity crisis, and at the same time, opened up a giant Gospel opportunity for the Christian community to witness God’s love. In considering our response to the issues raised by the LGBT culture, it is critical that the Christian community maintain the tension between the exclusive claims of Christ while simultaneously reaching out in compassion with the inclusive care of Christ. If we capitulate on Biblical truth, we forfeit the Gospel and its redeeming power; but if we fail to reach out in compassion and care, we miss the opportunity to witness and share the Gospel. This discussion is designed to provide a practical framework and accessible resources for equipping Christians to best navigate the tensions between maintaining an uncompromising Biblical sexual ethic and engendering a heart for a broken people.
